About Mike Kelloway

A lifelong resident of Cape Breton-Canso, Mike Kelloway knows that positive change starts with community. That’s why Mike has worked hard to be a community leader in Cape Breton and North Eastern Nova Scotia. His passion for community and economic development was defined by his desire to have an impact on those around him.

Mike grew up on Chapel Drive, in Glace Bay, just a short walk from St. Anne’s School. The only child of the late Michael “Mick” Kelloway and Delores Kelloway, Mike learned a lot from his parents. Mike pursued a Bachelor of Community Studies at Cape Breton University. After graduating from Cape Breton University, Mike took his passion for education to the next level and completed his graduate studies in Education from the University of Calgary. His father’s coal mining work ethic, his mother’s tireless love and the lessons learned though his education are the foundation of the formative values that drive Mike to make Cape Breton-Canso a better place for his constituents.

Before entering federal politics, Mike’s career had taken him from youth worker and entrepreneur to College lecturer, from the extension department at Cape Breton University to his previous position as a special project administrator at the Nova Scotia Community College. His titles have included Dean of Flexible Learning, Senior Manager of Customized Learning and Entrepreneurship, and most recently, Community Innovation Lead for Cape Breton and North Eastern NS.

Mike was elected as Member of Parliament for Cape Breton-Canso in 2019. He is a strong advocate for healthcare and community economic development. He is a powerful voice for Cape Breton-Canso on Parliament Hill. Mike keeps his constituents top of mind in his role in various committees and interparliamentary groups including the Standing Committee for Health, the Standing Committee for Justice, as well as, Atlantic, Rural and National Caucus. Mike credits his family, friends and role models for giving him the time and space to discover his passions: social development, a deep belief in the importance of volunteerism, and a relentless desire to make our community a better place for young and old alike.

Your Success is Our Success.
