YOUR 2019 AWARD WINNERS

.

THE MACDONALD FAMILY – MIDWAY MOTORS LTD.
Jack Hartery Lifetime Achievement in Business Award

The MacDonald family business began with KR MacDonald opening the original dealership in Middle River in 1926; sons Jackie and Gordon MacDonald eventually took over sales, with their brother Bobby in the service department in what proved to be an enormously successful family partnership. They achieved a major milestone in 1985 when they opened a second dealership in Port Hastings. After 93 years in business, the MacDonald family at Midway Motors has built a strong brand of quality service and sales; they have employed generations of people, and served generations of customers!

LEON BURT – STRAIT RICHMOND MINOR HOCKEY
Kevin Beaton Heart of the Community Award

Leon has dedicated many years to creating sport opportunities for youth, particularly for aspiring hockey players across the region. His dedication to the Strait Richmond Minor Hockey Association (where he has been a member of the board for over 12 years, taking on a variety of roles), along with his leadership role at the Freddie MacNeil Royals Gents Tournament is a true representation of his “pay it forward” spirit.

POTLOTEK EDUCATION OFFICE
Cultural Award of Merit

The Potlotek Education Office is a strong promoter and protector of Mi’kmaq culture, supporting the development of traditional (yet innovative) crafts, regalia, performances, traditional meal sharing, language and advocacy, as well as acknowledging the need for connection and understanding between Indigenous and non Indigenous peoples.

DANIELLE PATTERSON, DEVANTEC IT
President’s Award

Danielle MacDonald is the co-owner of Devantec IT and Anchored Ideas based in Sydney. In developing the Chamber’s new website, Danielle has gone above and beyond in helping to develop the kind of visual impact that we were looking for. She regularly attends events and often brings new / prospective Chamber members along with her, along with making referrals to the Chamber to other businesses that she works with. Danielle is an active contributor to our social media – in true “all ships rise fashion” she is helping to grow the Chamber’s brand while she grows her own business.

Owen MacLean
NSCC Leadership Award

Owen is a marine student at the NSCC Strait Area Campus who has been a consistent contributor to community and extra curricular activities over the last number of years from coaching the PHAST swim team to volunteering to help with local events.
